First dial option allows you to select who would receive the first call in the case of outgoing calls. Outbound calls work on the concept in which two calls are made, one to the agent and other to the customer and then both the calls are merged. So, the first dial allows you to select who would be getting the first call. If you select receiver as First dial, the customer would receive the first call. When he picks up, the second call would be generated to your agents.
If you select agent as first dial, the agent would receive the first call. And then the second call would be initiated to the customer as explained above.
